ARTIST STATEMENT

ABSTRACT
A deep appreciation of texture and layered color inspire me to paint color fields and abstraction. The journey and process of each piece holds a specific place in time. My intent is for the viewer to find something beneath the surface by moving beyond the obvious. Emotive impact is shrouded, and then exposed amidst layers of paint.

EXPRESSION
My work is naturally abstract and spontaneously textured. Each advancement bears increasing freedom, revealing vulnerability and strength that translates to each canvas as it does with life. Most concepts form as I drift to sleep. Colors charged with expressive movement and emotional energy flow into my mind in this lucid state. To create my work I venture deep into a realm of uncertainty. I often fight a battle between what’s going on within me and what is happening on the canvas. I allow the materials to lead me to a single moment of clarity . . . a revelation. This drives my work further, distilling it, adding intensity, and then bringing the randomness together in a sense of order.

COLOR
I play with a balance of oppositions in the use of composition and color, and light and shadow. The psychological meaning imbued in my use of color expenses powerful and raw emotions. I compose these ingredients into a “symphonization” that creates a sublime image.
